Manicure
How long does Shellac last on fingernails?
Shellac usually lasts 2 to 3 weeks on fingernails without chipping. After that the regrowth becomes visible and the polish should be removed gently by soaking it off rather than scraping or peeling it. Treating the natural nail with cuticle oil before the next application helps keep it healthy.
How much does a manicure cost in Kaarst?
The price of a manicure depends on the option you choose; current prices are listed in Beauty Time's online booking for the Kaarst studio. A classic manicure takes 30 minutes, with Mavala polish 45 minutes, with Shellac 60 minutes and with gel polish 90 minutes. Regular clients can also opt for a manicure subscription.
What is the difference between Shellac, gel polish, natural nail reinforcement and gel extensions?
Shellac and gel polish are coloured coatings cured under a UV or LED lamp that stay on the natural nail without lengthening it; gel polish is usually built up in several layers and is therefore slightly sturdier. Natural nail reinforcement adds a thin gel layer to your own nail so that soft or brittle nails are less likely to split. Gel extensions, by contrast, lengthen the nail with sculpted gel and, at around 120 minutes, are the most involved option.
What is a baby boomer manicure?
Baby boomer is a variation of the French manicure in which the nail fades softly from nude or pink at the base to white at the tip. Instead of the crisp white line of a classic French, it creates a natural, understated look that also stays discreet as the nail grows out. At Beauty Time, both baby boomer and French manicures take around 75 minutes.
Do Shellac or gel polish damage natural nails?
When applied and removed properly, Shellac and gel polish generally do not cause significant damage to natural nails. Thin, brittle nails are usually the result of picking or peeling off the polish, which pulls away the top layers of the nail, or of excessive filing. If your nails tend to be soft, a natural nail reinforcement in between and daily cuticle oil can help.
How often should I get a manicure?
For well-groomed hands, a manicure roughly every 2 to 4 weeks is a good rhythm. With Shellac or gel polish, an appointment every 2 to 3 weeks makes sense, as the nail will have grown out and the polish should be renewed properly. Regular clients at Beauty Time in Kaarst can use a manicure subscription or combine manicure and pedicure in a single 120-minute appointment.
Pedicure
Do you treat nail fungus and calluses?
Yes, Beauty Time in Kaarst offers a dedicated nail fungus treatment as well as the removal of corns and calluses, each with a treatment time of 60 minutes. These treatments draw on experience from specialised work in podiatry. Ordinary hard skin is also gently removed as part of every pedicure.
How long does it take to get rid of nail fungus?
Nail fungus takes patience, because a toenail grows only around 1 to 2 millimetres a month and a big toenail takes roughly 9 to 12 months to renew completely. A cosmetic treatment removes affected nail material and supports care, but diagnosis and any medication should be handled by a doctor. Regular appointments, washing socks at 60 degrees or more and disinfecting shoes all help.
Can I have a pedicure if I have diabetes?
With diabetes, foot care is generally best carried out by a podiatrist, and medical foot care for diabetic foot syndrome can often be prescribed by a doctor. This is because diabetes can reduce sensation and circulation in the feet, so even tiny injuries may go unnoticed and heal poorly. Please consult your doctor before a cosmetic pedicure and always mention your diabetes when booking.
How long does Shellac last on toenails?
On toenails, Shellac usually lasts considerably longer than on fingernails, often 4 to 6 weeks. Toenails grow more slowly and are subject to less wear, so regrowth becomes noticeable later. At Beauty Time, a pedicure with Shellac takes 60 minutes, a Shellac French 75 minutes and a Shellac pedicure with an extra 30-minute foot massage 90 minutes.
What should I do before a pedicure?
Before a pedicure, avoid shaving your legs for 24 hours and do not work on hard skin yourself with a blade or rasp, as tiny cuts can let germs in. If you choose polish or Shellac, open shoes or sandals are practical so nothing smudges. If you have open wounds, inflammation or an ingrown, very red nail, please check with the studio before your appointment.
How often should I get a pedicure?
For well-cared-for feet, a pedicure roughly every 4 to 6 weeks is recommended, which matches how quickly nails and hard skin grow back. With heavy calluses, recurring corns or ongoing nail fungus treatment, shorter intervals can make sense. Beauty Time in Kaarst also offers a pedicure subscription for this.
Massage
When can I book a massage at Beauty Time?
Massages at Beauty Time in Kaarst are available on Thursdays only. That is when masseur Yury is in the studio; massage appointments are not possible on other days of the week. You can book online, ideally well in advance, as there is only this one massage day each week.
How much does a massage cost in Kaarst?
The price of a massage depends on the type and length; current prices are shown in the online booking. You can choose a 30-minute foot massage, a 60-minute back massage or leg massage, or a 90-minute full-body massage. All massages take place on Thursdays.
Which massage is right for me?
The right massage depends on where you feel tension and how much time you have. The 60-minute back massage focuses on the neck, shoulders and back, where tension often builds up from screen work, while the leg massage suits heavy, tired legs. The 30-minute foot massage is a short break, and the 90-minute full-body massage offers the most complete relaxation.
What should I wear to a massage and how do I prepare?
Wear comfortable clothing to your massage; you keep your underwear on, and areas not being massaged are covered with towels. Take off jewellery beforehand and avoid a heavy meal for about 1 to 2 hours before. Afterwards it helps to drink plenty of water and allow yourself a little rest.
When should I avoid having a massage?
If you have a fever, an acute infection, a fresh injury, inflammation or a rash in the area to be treated, you should postpone your massage. With thrombosis or pronounced varicose veins, a leg massage is not advisable. If you are pregnant, have a cardiovascular condition, take blood thinners or have recently had surgery, please check with your doctor first and mention it at the start of the appointment.
Can I give a massage as a gift?
A massage makes a popular gift, for example as a voucher, which you can ask about at the Beauty Time studio in Kaarst. One thing for the recipient to know: massage appointments are only available on Thursdays and should therefore be booked in good time. Options include foot, back, leg and full-body massages lasting between 30 and 90 minutes.
Waxing
How long does hair need to be for waxing?
For good waxing results, hair should be about 5 millimetres long, which usually means 2 to 3 weeks of growth after your last shave. If the hair is shorter, the wax cannot grip it properly and stubble is left behind. Much longer hair makes the treatment unnecessarily uncomfortable and can be trimmed slightly beforehand.
How long do waxing results last?
After waxing, skin usually stays smooth for 3 to 4 weeks because the hair is removed from the root. With regular waxing, hair often grows back finer and sparser. Avoid shaving between appointments so the hair reaches the length needed for your next wax.
Does hot wax hurt?
Waxing is briefly noticeable, but hot wax is generally felt to be gentler than cold wax strips. Hot wax wraps around the hair, sticks less to the skin and is removed without a strip, which is kinder to the skin. At Beauty Time in Kaarst the skin is soothed with a calming cream afterwards, and most people find waxing more comfortable with each appointment.
How should I prepare for waxing?
Avoid exfoliating and intensive sunbathing or sunbeds for 24 to 48 hours before waxing, as irritated or sun-stressed skin reacts more sensitively. On the day itself, it is best not to apply body lotion or oil to the area so the wax adheres well. Please do not shave in the weeks beforehand, so the hair is about 5 millimetres long.
What should I avoid after waxing, and how do I prevent ingrown hairs?
For the first 24 to 48 hours after waxing, avoid exercise, saunas, hot baths, sun and sunbeds as well as fragranced products, because the open hair follicles are easily irritated. Loose clothing reduces friction on freshly treated skin. To prevent ingrown hairs, gently exfoliate once or twice a week from the second or third day onwards and moisturise regularly.
Can I get waxed while using isotretinoin or retinol?
Waxing should not be done while taking isotretinoin (for example for acne) and generally for at least 6 months afterwards, because the skin is thinner and can lift when the wax is removed. Topical retinoids such as tretinoin, adapalene or retinol should usually be paused on the area to be treated for about 5 to 7 days beforehand. Please mention such medication, as well as blood thinners or diabetes, before your appointment and check with your doctor if you are unsure.
Do you offer waxing for men?
Yes, Beauty Time in Kaarst offers hot wax treatments for men too, particularly for the back and shoulders in 30 minutes. The skin is cleansed, gently waxed and then cared for with a calming cream and a short massage. Men can also have their underarms, legs and eyebrows waxed.
Facial treatments
Which facial is right for my skin?
The most reliable way to find the right facial is a skin analysis, such as the one included in the Welcome Treatment at Beauty Time in Kaarst. Your skin is analysed with the Derma-Visualizer, followed by a 15-minute consultation and a 90-minute treatment. Afterwards you know what care your skin needs; new clients receive 10 percent off the Welcome Treatment.
How much does a facial cost in Kaarst?
The price of a facial depends on the type and length of the treatment. Current prices for all treatments are listed in Beauty Time's online booking for the Kaarst studio. For regular care there are also treatment courses, such as the Kur Treatment Basic.
How long does a facial take?
A facial takes between 45 and 90 minutes depending on the treatment. The Ladies' Basic facial is the shortest at 45 minutes, Deep Cleaning and the Deluxe facial each take 90 minutes, and the Welcome Treatment adds a 15-minute consultation. The exact length of each treatment is shown in the price list.
Can I add eyebrow or eyelash treatments to my facial?
Yes, eyebrow and eyelash tinting as well as eyebrow shaping can be added to any facial. Each of these services takes around 30 minutes. That way you get well-cared-for skin and a defined look in a single appointment.
How often should I have a facial?
For most skin types, a facial roughly every 4 to 6 weeks makes sense. This rhythm follows the skin's renewal cycle, which takes around 28 days in young skin and becomes longer with age. For blemishes or specific goals such as more hydration, a course of treatments at shorter intervals combined with consistent home care can boost results.
Are there facials specifically for men and teenagers?
Yes, Beauty Time in Kaarst offers a 75-minute Men's Basic facial tailored to men's skin, which is usually thicker and oilier and affected by shaving. For teenagers under 18 there is the 45-minute Teenager Deep Clearing, which treats blackheads and blemishes and includes a skin analysis with skincare advice. This helps young people learn early on what their skin really needs.
Can a facial help with acne and blackheads?
A cosmetic treatment can noticeably reduce blackheads and blemishes and support acne-prone skin, but it does not replace dermatological treatment for severe or inflamed acne. Beauty Time offers the 75-minute Pro Clear acne treatment by Dr. Babor Pro as well as the 90-minute Deep Cleaning. If you use isotretinoin or prescription retinoids, please mention it beforehand, as extraction and peels then need to be adjusted. After an extraction it is best to skip make-up until the next day so your pores can settle.
Hydrafacial
What is the difference between a Hydrafacial and an Aquafacial?
Hydrafacial and Aquafacial share a similar goal, deep pore cleansing and intensive hydration with no downtime, but at Beauty Time in Kaarst they are structured differently. The Hydrafacial is a winter special with two stages: a manual extraction first, followed by the Hydrafacial treatment itself, with neck and décolleté available as an add-on. The 75-minute Aquafacial can be booked all year round and is also available as a course.
What happens during a Hydrafacial?
A Hydrafacial takes place in two steps: first the skin is manually extracted, then the Hydrafacial treatment follows. This clears the pores and infuses moisture into the skin, so it looks plumper and fresher straight afterwards. You can add the neck and décolleté if you would like these areas treated as well.
Is there any downtime after a Hydrafacial, and can I wear make-up afterwards?
A Hydrafacial has no significant downtime, and you can usually go about your day straight away. The manual extraction may leave a few spots slightly red for a few hours. Ideally, wait until the next day before applying make-up so the freshly cleansed pores do not clog again, and avoid saunas and strong sun on the day of treatment.
When can I book a Hydrafacial at Beauty Time?
At Beauty Time in Kaarst the Hydrafacial is a winter special, available from 1 October to 31 March. Outside this period, the 75-minute Aquafacial is a year-round alternative for deep pore cleansing and hydration. To complement your Hydrafacial you can add services such as eyebrow shaping or eyelash tinting.
Is a Hydrafacial suitable for sensitive skin or rosacea?
A Hydrafacial is considered a relatively gentle treatment and suits most skin types, from oily and blemish-prone to dry or dull skin. With rosacea, broken capillaries or very sensitive skin, the treatment should be discussed in advance and adjusted if necessary, as the manual extraction in particular can increase redness. If you have an active cold sore, sunburn, open wounds or are currently taking isotretinoin, please postpone your appointment.
Fruit acid peel
Why are fruit acid peels only offered in autumn and winter?
Fruit acid peels are best done in autumn and winter because removing the top layer of dead skin makes the skin more sensitive to light for several weeks. Under strong UV exposure, this increases the risk of pigmentation spots, which is exactly what the treatment is meant to reduce. That is why Beauty Time in Kaarst offers its Dr. Babor Pro fruit acid treatment only in the darker months, as a winter special from 1 October to 31 March.
What is the difference between an intensive and a mild fruit acid peel?
The mild fruit acid peel works more gently and suits sensitive skin and first-timers, while the intensive version stimulates skin renewal more strongly. Both aim to soften fine lines, smooth the skin and improve spots and blemishes, with the intensive treatment usually showing visible results more quickly. In return, slightly more redness and light flaking are more likely after the intensive version; the right strength is chosen based on your skin.
Is tingling or stinging normal during a fruit acid peel?
Yes, slight tingling, prickling or warmth during the application time is normal with a fruit acid peel and shows that the acid is working. The acid is applied in a controlled way and removed or neutralised after the set time. If the stinging becomes very strong, please say so immediately; mild redness afterwards usually fades within a few hours.
What should I do after a fruit acid peel?
After a fruit acid peel, daily sun protection with SPF 30 to 50 is the most important thing, even in winter and on cloudy days, at least for the duration of the course and a few weeks afterwards. For the first 24 to 48 hours, avoid saunas, sunbeds and strenuous exercise, and do not use other exfoliants, retinol or acid products for a few days. A gentle, hydrating moisturiser helps if the skin feels tight or flakes slightly.
When should I not have a fruit acid peel?
A fruit acid peel should not be carried out during isotretinoin treatment and generally for up to 6 months afterwards, and topical retinoids are usually paused about a week beforehand. The treatment is also unsuitable with an active cold sore, sunburn, open wounds, an acute flare-up of rosacea or eczema, or directly after facial waxing. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or take regular medication, please check with your doctor first.
How many fruit acid peels do I need?
For visible results, fruit acid peels are usually done as a course of around 4 to 6 sessions at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks. A single treatment already gives a fresher complexion, but spots and fine lines only improve over several sessions. Beauty Time in Kaarst offers a fruit acid course for this, and the neck and décolleté can be treated as well on request.
Microneedling
What is the difference between intensive and mild microneedling?
Mild microneedling stimulates the skin more gently and suits first-timers, more sensitive skin and anyone wanting a refreshing treatment with hardly any downtime. Intensive microneedling provides a stronger stimulus, boosts collagen production more and is usually chosen for wrinkles, enlarged pores or acne scars. In return, the skin stays red for longer afterwards; the right option is discussed beforehand based on your skin.
How long does skin stay red after microneedling?
After microneedling, skin is usually red for 24 to 48 hours, much like a mild sunburn, and often only for a few hours after the mild version. A slight feeling of tightness, warmth or minor swelling is normal during this time. After an intensive treatment it is best not to plan any important engagements for the following day.
When can I wear make-up after microneedling?
After microneedling, wait at least 24 hours and ideally 48 hours before applying make-up. The tiny channels in the skin are still open at first, so make-up can cause irritation or introduce germs. During this time you should also avoid exercise, saunas, swimming pools and sun, and use sun protection consistently afterwards.
How many microneedling sessions do I need, and how far apart?
For clear results, 3 to 6 microneedling sessions about 4 to 6 weeks apart are usually recommended. The interval matters because after each treatment the skin needs several weeks to build new collagen, so results develop over months. At Beauty Time in Kaarst, facial microneedling takes 45 minutes and can also be booked as a needling course.
When should I not have microneedling?
Microneedling is not suitable with active inflamed acne, cold sores, open wounds, sunburn, a rosacea flare-up or eczema in the treatment area. It is also advised against during isotretinoin treatment and usually for up to 6 months afterwards, with a tendency to keloid scarring, clotting disorders or blood thinners, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you have diabetes, an autoimmune condition or are prone to cold sores, please check with your doctor first.
Does microneedling hurt?
Microneedling is usually described as a light pricking or scratching sensation and feels unfamiliar rather than painful. With the mild version it is barely noticeable, while the intensive version and sensitive areas such as the forehead or upper lip can be felt a little more. The very fine needles create tiny micro-injuries that prompt the skin to produce new collagen.
GREEN PEEL® by Schrammek of Düsseldorf
What is the difference between GREEN PEEL® Classic and GREEN PEEL® Energy?
The original GREEN PEEL® by Schrammek of Düsseldorf comes in two versions: GREEN PEEL® Classic is the traditional herbal peel with a peeling phase lasting several days, while GREEN PEEL® Energy is the gentler version without visible peeling. In the Classic treatment, a herbal blend is massaged into the skin to strongly stimulate renewal, which is particularly suited to blemishes, pigmentation, acne scars or enlarged pores. Energy revitalises and refreshes the skin with no downtime; at Beauty Time in Kaarst both include a home care set.
What happens during the peeling phase after a GREEN PEEL® Classic?
After a GREEN PEEL® Classic, the skin typically peels over about 5 days. On day one it is red and tingles, on day two it feels tight and looks slightly darker, and from day three peeling usually starts around the mouth and nose, peaking on day four. It is generally complete around day five; do not pull off the flakes but let them come away on their own.
Can I be seen in public after a GREEN PEEL®?
After a GREEN PEEL® Energy you can go out straight away, while after a GREEN PEEL® Classic this applies with some limitations. During the first one or two days usually only redness is noticeable, but the peeling is clearly visible at its strongest around days three and four. Many people therefore time a Classic treatment so that these days fall on a weekend or days off.
What should I know about sun exposure after a GREEN PEEL®?
After a GREEN PEEL® the new skin is particularly sensitive to light, so avoid direct sun and sunbeds during the peeling phase and for at least 2 to 4 weeks afterwards. Daily sun protection with a high factor, ideally SPF 50, helps prevent new pigmentation. For this reason Beauty Time in Kaarst offers GREEN PEEL® as a winter special from 1 October to 31 March.
What is the home care set for after a GREEN PEEL®?
The home care set contains the skincare for the days after your GREEN PEEL® and is included with both Classic and Energy at Beauty Time in Kaarst. The products are designed for skin in its renewal phase and support the results of the treatment. During this time, use only this care if possible and avoid your own exfoliants, acids or retinol until the skin has fully calmed down.
Who should not have a GREEN PEEL®?
A GREEN PEEL® Classic is not suitable during isotretinoin treatment and usually for up to 6 months afterwards, or with an active cold sore, open wounds, sunburn or acutely inflamed skin. With rosacea, broken capillaries or very sensitive skin the Classic version may be too intensive, and the gentler Energy version is often the better choice after consultation. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a skin condition or take regular medication, please check with your doctor first.
